Fall Is My Second Favorite F-Word... Fashion Is My First

Finally, the most beloved time, the commencement of sweater weather season. I think that if you were to ask anybody who is obsessed with fashion, they’ll agree that Fall is the best season to dress. Not only is the weather usually phenomenal during this time of year, but we can finally layer without breaking a sweat. You can turn a simple outfit into something more personalized and put together with just a few extra clothing items. But to all good layering, one must start with the staples. So naturally, I went through my closet and picked out a few staple clothing items that I think everybody needs in their closet for Fall.

Turtlenecks

Starting off very simple, turtlenecks. I’m sure everyone owns at least one turtle neck in their closet. It's always good to have a black or white turtle neck to start off with, but I'm all about color. Just imagine for example, a yellow turtleneck layered with a graphic tee on top, it gives a nice pop of color and your outfit is complete in just two simple steps. You can also layer with vests or cardigans, or really anything depending on how cold it gets where you live! I styled just the basic white and black turtleneck, but any color turtleneck can be easily elevated.

Plaid skirts

I think Fall is the designated plaid wearing season, but plaid shirts are overrated, hence plaid skirts! I’m from Florida so skirts are great for when it's not freezing out but I still wanna wear a sweater. If it does get colder, you can easily layer by wearing stockings underneath. I also love the look of oversized sweaters with the frills of the skirt sticking out, it's simple yet makes you look like you tried hard. Especially plaid skirts because patterns are everything and gives you room to wear different colored tops or sweaters without being too plain.

Cardigans/ Vests

I think cardigans and vests speak for themselves. We are not yet in the colder months where you have to wear heavier coats or puffer jackets, but that doesn't mean we don't need that extra clothing to keep us warm. Not only are Cardigans and vests great because they give you just the right amount of warmth for Fall, but they can be easily thrown on as you walk out to give your outfit that extra oomph. I especially like plaid cardigans or patterned vests for when I’m in a plain top and jeans kind of mood. I also included a picture of a lightweight sweater because in the same way I would style a cardigan or vest, I can just chuck on a fun sweater to take my outfit to the next level.

Trusty boots

Lastly, and I feel like this goes without saying, but you need a good pair of boots for the fall season. The ones pictured on the left are my beloved Jeffrey Campbell Combat Boots that I have had for far too long ( as you can probably tell), but love so dearly. Whether I’m wearing a dress or a skirt, I wear these boots to give my outfit some character. Pictured on the right is my most recent purchase, platform Doc Martens, that again are much more elevated than a basic combat boot. Regardless of any type of boots, keep your feet toasty, are comfortable, and look cute! What more could one ask for.

And there you have it, my Fall staple pieces. I chose pieces that I feel most already have in their closet but if not, you know what to look for. Keep an eye out on my Instagram (@apparentlyambarsapparel) to see how I style some of these pieces.
